BULLS ALL-TIME ADVANCEMENT LIST

ST. PETER, Minn. – Each year, it seems one NCAA school lands a bevy of Bulls for its roster for the following season.

This year, Gustavus Adolphus College appears to be that team.

The Golden Gusties’ haul for 2021-22 is up to four North Iowa Bulls, with Nick Mohs-Messerli’s commitment to the NCAA Division III program for the upcoming season. He joins Lucas Jorgenson, Kyle Heffron and Jac Triemert, who all committed to Gustavus Adolphus earlier in the season.

“The deciding factor for me was the facilities. The campus felt like a place I want to spend the next four years at,” said Mohs-Messerli. “The coaches are looking for a fast forward to earn a consistent role in their lineup.”

Mohs-Messerli would certainly seem to fill the bill after the way he played for North Iowa in his debut season at the junior level. The Orono, Minnesota native opened his Bulls career with an assist in the team’s 2020-21 opener, a 9-1 win over the Alexandria Blizzard on October 2. He rolled up five goals and 16 assists in 33 games this past season, and tacked on four more points in the postseason, appearing in all 10 games on the way to the Bulls’ fourth national championship.

Prior to coming to Mason City, Mohs-Messerli played nine games for Orono High School’s 2018 state championship team and tallied 100 points over a three-year varsity career, tallying 63 points as the Spartans’ senior captain in 2019-20. His commitment also marks another success story for the North American Prospects Hockey League, suiting up for the NAPHL’s Minnesota Lakers 18-and-under squad that same year. Nearly 90 players who appeared in the NA3HL this past season have made NCAA or ACHA commitments.

“I am excited for Nick and his commitment to Gustavus,” said Bulls head coach and general manager Todd Sanden. “Nick was one of our top first-year players and contributed in all situations for us, and even played as a defenseman in the Fraser Cup championship tournament. We thank Nick and his family for their commitment to our program, and wish him the best of luck as a student-athlete at Gustavus.”

He becomes the seventh North Iowa player all-time to commit to Gustavus Adolphus, with former Bulls Connor Clemons and Dan Sandvig set to come back for their senior seasons next year. The Golden Gusties will look to move up the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference ladder after finishing 0-5 in the conference’s COVID-abbreviated 2020-21 season. Three of those losses came by a single goal.

The North Iowa Bulls congratulate Nick Mohs-Messerli on his commitment to Gustavus Adolphus College, and wish him the best as he continues his career on the ice and in the classroom.
