Uttech Earns West Division Star of the Week

Oct 27, 2020

MASON CITY, Iowa – Friday night’s come-from-behind victory was a big one for the North Iowa Bulls.

It meant bringing home two big points in a West Division race where every two-point swing could factor into the playoff race by year’s end. It was big for Brayden Uttech in his push to take over the Bulls’ scoring lead in the early stages of the season.

Tuesday, it also elevated Uttech’s stature on the North American Tier 3 Hockey League stage. Uttech has landed the West Division’s Bauer Hockey Star of the Week award, the second such honor for North Iowa in a row, after Garrett Freeman was named the West’s Star of the Week last week.

Uttech opened his junior career with five points in five games, but with all of those points came in just two of those outings. The Sun Prairie, Wisconsin native came up large in Friday’s outing with two goals and an assist – his two goals were the Bulls’ final two in a 5-3 victory, and included the game-winner in the third period. He would add an assist in Saturday’s 4-2 loss to the Alexandria Blizzard.

If Uttech can continue to solve the WarHawk defense, his star can only continue to rise – North Iowa is in the midst of a five-game stretch in the schedule that includes four games against Willmar. Both of this weekend’s contests are against the WarHawks, with the Bulls set to head on the road on Friday night. North Iowa returns home on Saturday to celebrate Halloween on “Boos and Brews Night,” with the opening puck drop at 7:30 p.m. at the Mason City Multipurpose Arena.
