BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – On Tuesday, the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced their Men’s Hockey Awards and it came as no surprise to see a trio of Bulls recognized for their performance.
Brett Gravelle and Johnny Panvica of the University of St. Thomas and Quinn Fuchs of Concordia College were selected to the MIAC All-Rookie Team for 2016-17.
Gravelle tied for team lead in points for the Tommies overall and was second in points during conference play. In 16 conference games, the forward from Forest Lake, Minnesota scored six times and added 13 helpers en route to 19 points and a plus-8 rating. As Bulls fans know, Brett loved to shoot the puck, and he led St. Thomas with 103 shots on goal in 2016-17.
Johnny Panvica started slow in his freshman campaign with the Tommies but he finished white hot, recording a point in each of his last nine games. Overall, Panvica finished with 21 points (10+11) in 22 games played. In MIAC action, he was even better, averaging over a point per game with 17 in just 15 games. He led all Tommie forwards in plus/minus with a plus-10 rating.
Quinn Fuchs, like Panvica, needed a little extra time to adjust to the college game. By the time conference play started, the forward from Minot, North Dakota was ready to go. His eight points (3+5) in 15 conference games tied him for fifth in the MIAC in scoring by a freshman. In addition to his playmaking abilities, Quinn was responsible and relentless in the defensive zone which led to his team leading plus-4 rating in the MIAC.
