Skrelja Becomes Bulls’ Third Star of the Week

Oct 4, 2017

MASON CITY, Iowa – At 6-0, the North Iowa Bulls own the North American 3 Hockey League’s best record heading into the first full week of October. This past week brought another sweep for the Bulls, and another Bauer Central Division Star of the Week award.

This week’s honor went to Dominic Skrelja, who helped North Iowa sweep the Metro Jets, ending their 57-game regular-season winning streak and giving the Jets back-to-back losses for the first time in almost three years.

Playing just 45 miles from his home in South Lyon, Michigan, Skrelja scored four goals over the weekend and added an assist. He racked up a +5 plus-minus rating for the weekend and tallied the game-winner in Sunday’s 5-3 matinee. Skrelja is no stranger to high-level hockey in the Motor City, developing in the storied Honeybaked and Belle Tire programs before making his way to the Midwest.

Colin Cain also received Star of the Week consideration after landing both wins in net for the Bulls. Cain stopped 61 of the Jets’ 66 shots on the weekend and is off to a 4-0 start.

North Iowa has a chance to make it a perfect four-star start to the year with a weekend set at the St. Louis Jr. Blues this Friday and Saturday. The series begins with a 7 p.m. faceoff at the Affton Ice Rink in suburban St. Louis this Friday night, followed by a 2 p.m. start the following afternoon. Live streaming for both games is available on HockeyTV.
