Santopoalo nets hat trick, leads xNorth Iowa to 14-0 win over Minnesota

The Minnesota Flying Aces could not stop the xNorth Iowa Bulls\’ Timothy Santopoalo, who tallied a hat trick in a 14-0 win.

Santopoalo\’s first goal came 16:42 into the first period. He then added goals at 20 seconds into the second and at 17:04 into the third.

xNorth Iowa led 7-0 after the opening frame the first period and maintained a healthy margin after.

Minnesota\’s power play was ineffective against the Bulls\’ penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

xNorth Iowa made the Flying Aces\’ netminders to work all game long, ripping 58 shots and forcing 44 saves. Patrick Anderson made 14 stops and Mike Stumpf made 30. The Bulls\’ penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Minnesota power plays. xNorth Iowa surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Bulls average 6.3 goals per contest.

xNorth Iowa also had goals scored by Richie Marenis, who had six, Kyle Krueger, who had three, and Chris Howard and Brandon Anderson, who each put in one. More assists for xNorth Iowa came via Matthew Fosdick, who had four, Matt Kroska, who had five, Chancie Hanson and Ron Lindgren, who contributed one a piece, and Tyler Richison, Dominik Florian, Ian Penvose, Logan Murphy, and Conor Jonasson, who each chipped in two.

Minnesota\’s offense operated below it season average. The Flying Aces put an average of 2.2 pucks into the net per game.

Dylan Parker made 21 saves for xNorth Iowa on 21 shots. The Bulls incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Minnesota incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
