Sangyeob Kim Selected to Korean World Championship Team

Mason City, IA- The North Iowa Bulls are excited that forward Sangyeob Kim has been selected to represent the South Korean National Hockey team at the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation’s 2025 World Championship Tournament. South Korea is competing at the Division I Group B level in this year’s group of IIHF Tournaments. 

This is Kim’s second major international tournament representing his nation this season. In February, the Seoul native took the ice at the 2025 Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China. Kim suited up for 8 games in which he posted 12 goals and 8 assists for 20 points. His efforts resulted in a Bronze Medal, the first medal at the Men’s level of competition in Kim’s international hockey career. He claimed a gold medal in the 2022 IIHF Division 2 Group A U18 World Junior Championships, scoring 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points in five games, finishing fifth in the whole tournament in overall scoring. The next season, he suited up for the 2023 IIHF Division 1 Group B U20 World Junior Championships, scoring 5 goals and 1 assist for 6 points in 5 games. Kim finished with the second most goals at the tournament. 

Last season, Kim made his debut at the Men’s level of IIHF competition at the 2024 Division I Group A World Championships, recording 1 goal in 5 games. 

Kim concluded his junior hockey career with a remarkable season. He suited up for 48 games in a Bulls jersey in the 2024-25 season, recording 19 goals, 28 assists, and 47 points. He finished tied for the Bulls’ lead in goal scoring and had the highest points per game of any Bull skater this season. Kim arrived to Mason City from the St. Cloud Norsemen in a mid-season trade during the 2023-24 season. He proceeded to score 5 goals and 5 assists for 10 points in 20 games for the remainder of that season. All told, Kim suited up for 98 North American Hockey League games between North Iowa & St. Cloud. He scored 25 goals and 39 assists for 64 points in his NAHL career. He finishes his Bulls’ career top-ten in franchise goal scoring (8th), assists (8th), and overall scoring (7th). 

The 2025 IIHF Division I Group B World Championship Tournament begins on April 26th and will be held at the Tondiraba Ice Hall in Tallinn, Estonia. The Bulls want to wish good luck to Sangyeob Kim as he heads into the tournament!
