Sangyeob Kim Claims Silver Medal at IIHF World Championships

Sangyeob Kim concluded his appearance at the 2025 IIHF Division I Group B World Championships on Friday, May 2nd, helping the Korean Men’s National Team claim the Silver Medal in Tallinn, Estonia. This was Kim’s second appearance in an IIHF sanctioned men’s championship event of his hockey playing career. In five games, the Seoul native recorded 2 goals and 1 assist for three points to get Korea their first silver medal at any level of IIHF men’s competition since 2017. Kim appeared in all five World Championship Games the season prior in Bolzano, Italy, scoring 1 goal in the five-game tournament. 

Sangyeob Kim authored a decorated junior hockey career. He made his international debut in the 2022 U-18 Division 2 Group A World Junior Championships, recording 5 goals and 4 assists for 9 points in 5 games enroute to claiming the gold medal. The next season, he skated for the U-20 Korean World Junior team at the Division 1 Group B level, scoring 5 goals and 1 assist for 6 points. Earlier this season, Kim made his first appearance in an international Men’s competition, skating in 8 games at the Asian Winter Games. In those games, Kim recorded a remarkable 12 goals and 6 assists for 18 points and claimed a bronze medal. 

This season, Kim concluded his junior hockey career with 19 goals and 28 assists for 47 points in 48 games played. He finished second on the Bulls in overall scoring, third on the team in assists, and tied for the team lead in goal scoring with Cole Wirun. Kim’s season scoring total ranks 5th all time on the Bulls’ single season scoring record.
