North Iowa’s comeback falls short, Alexandria wins 7-5

The Alexandria Blizzard, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the North Iowa Bulls and clinched a 7-5 victory.

Alexandria led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Blizzard\’s Luke Pavelich scored at 7:54 in the second period to put Alexandria up 6-3.

The Blizzard got the win behind a great game by Gavin Mindt, who had one goal and four assists. Mindt scored 8:13 into the first period to make the score 3-2 North Iowa. Tom Schmidt provided the assist.

Alexandria bested its season scoring average. This season, the Blizzard average 3.9 goals per contest. The defensemen of Alexandria were also effective in North Iowa\’s zone, and came away with two goals.

Alexandria additionally got points from Tyler Berginski, who also registered one goal and one assist, Schmidt, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Bo Gronseth, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Trent Olson also scored for Alexandria. More assists for Alexandria came via Tony Arias, who had two and Tom Monteiro and Tyler Sworsky, who each chipped in one.

The Bulls kept the Blizzard\’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Evan Bisek made 39 saves on 44 shots. North Iowa\’s defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Bulls give up 2.2 goals per game.

North Iowa was helped by Jake Johnson, who racked up two goals. Johnson scored the first of his two goals at 8:36 into the second period to make the score 6-4 Alexandria. Jake Mullendore picked up the assist. Johnson\’s next tally made the score 6-5 Alexandria with 8:41 left in the second period. Mullendore provided the assist. North Iowa also got points from Johnny Panvica, who also had one goal and one assist, Mullendore, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Jon Severson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Carmen Dalesandro and Jack Stang, who contributed one each and Kurt Halbach and Joe Kleven, who each chipped in two.

Alexandria incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Bulls took out Tommi Ahlgren after he had made 12 saves and installed David Johnson in goal, where he finished with eight saves and the loss. North Iowa incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
