North Iowa rips Twin City, 6-1

The North Iowa Bulls had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 win over the Twin City Steel.

Joe Burgmeier had two goals to lead North Iowa to victory. Burgmeier scored at 17:27 into the first period to make the score 2-1 North Iowa and again while on the power play 52 seconds into the third to make the score 5-1 North Iowa.

The Bulls\’ penalty kill excelled, as North Iowa gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Twin City was unable to stop the Bulls from sending pucks towards the net, and North Iowa eventually piled up 47 shots on goal.

North Iowa additionally got points from Brett Gravelle, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for North Iowa included Kurt Halbach, Logan Murphy, and Dylan Zins, who each put in one. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Evan Mills, Johnny Panvica, Joe Kleven, Kohei Sato, and Austin Jackson, who each chipped in two.

The Steel did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Twin City averages 3.8 goals per game. The Steel\’s penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Twin City finished with 37 penalty minutes.

The Steel were led by Jared Erickson, who scored the team\’s only goal. Erickson scored on the power play 4:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Twin City. Twin City had gained a power play chance when Soren Colstrup was whistled for slashing. Isak Bergland assisted on the tally.

Tommi Ahlgren rejected 15 shots on goal for the Bulls. North Iowa totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. For the Bulls, Murphy was ejected from the game. The Steel\’s Robbie Goor stopped 41 shots out of the 47 that he faced. Twin City ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyle Wagner was ejected from the game.
