North Iowa rips La Crosse, 9-2

North Iowa had a six-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 9-2 win over La Crosse.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, La Crosse faces elimination next time out.

Brett Gravelle was all over the ice for North Iowa, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Gravelle scored the first of his two goals at 15 seconds into the second period to make the score 4-0 North Iowa. Gravelle\’s next tally made the score 9-2 North Iowa with 2:44 left in the third period. North Iowa had gotten the advantage when La Crosse\’s Noah Hallbeck was sent off for continuing altercation. Shane Bernhardson picked up the assist.

La Crosse\’s eight penalties came back to haunt it, as La Crosse let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

North Iowa forced La Crosse\’s goalies to work between the pipes, firing 36 shots and forcing 27 saves. Andrew Wagner made 26 stops and Will Graves made one.

North Iowa also got points from Joe Burgmeier, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Austin Jackson, who also tallied two goals and one assist, Quinn Fuchs, who also had one goal and one assist, and Marshall Barnes, who also registered one goal and two assists. Others who scored for North Iowa included Ryan Durant and Adam Orn, who each put in one. More assists for North Iowa came via Kohei Sato, Sean Mallonee, Connor Bump, Carmen Dalesandro, and David Min, who each chipped in one.

North Iowa was unable to stop La Crosse from sending pucks towards the net, and La Crosse eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

La Crosse also had goals scored by Ben Johnson and Jerame Schuetzle, who scored one goal each. In addition, La Crosse received assists from Jared Bromberg, Mick Nisbet, Matt Wolter, and Daylon De Souza, who contributed one each.

Tommi Ahlgren recorded 29 saves for North Iowa. North Iowa incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. La Crosse incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
