North Iowa Quintet Leads West to 2-1 Top Prospects Finish

Feb 19, 2019

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – An offensive-minded Central Division team did get the better of the West Division at this week’s NA3HL Top Prospects showcase, but the West was the best in its other outings, going 2-1 at the New England Sports Village this week. More than 200 college and junior scouts were in attendance to watch 120 of the top players across the league.

Four Bulls players and head coach Todd Sanden were selected to take part. The West routed the South Division 6-2 in Monday’s opening game, with Jimmy McDermott posting a goal and an assist. Ivan Bogach and Joey Petronack added a helper each.

McDermott picked up an assist on Carson Simon’s goal 5:40 into the contest, before scoring one of his own with 2:32 left in the opening period. The West racked up a 4-0 lead before the intermission, and led by as many as five in the game.

The North Iowa contingent wasn’t able to muster a point in the Central Division’s 5-2 win over the West in Monday’s later action. Justin Schwartzmiller of the Wisconsin Whalers led the way with a pair of Central goals.

No Bulls found their way to the score sheet in the final game on Tuesday, but the West Division came up big with a 4-0 shutout of the Northeast Division. New Ulm forward Jacob Halvorson had a pair of goals to set the pace for the West, with Alexandria’s Dylan Giorgio picking up a goal and an assist. Peter Verstegen was chosen to take part in the event, but did not register a point in the three games.

The Bulls return to action against the Rochester Grizzlies this weekend, with a Friday evening road contest and a Saturday night home game at the North Iowa Ice Arena. Friday’s game gets started at 7:05 p.m., with Saturday’s game slated for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop. Live streaming coverage of both games is available on HockeyTV, with audio streaming of Friday’s game at Rochester live on Mixlr.

Saturday’s game against the Grizzlies is Support Your School Night, featuring a laptop raffle and a chance to win recess with the Bulls. Admission for students is free, with $5 admission for college students. To purchase advance tickets for Saturday’s game or any future Bulls home game, click here.
