North Iowa holds on for 4-3 win against Granite City

The Granite City Lumberjacks tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the North Iowa Bulls held on for a 4-3 victory.

North Iowa made the score 4-2 on a goal by Joe Kleven at 3:13 in the third period, and Granite City got as close as 4-3 when Dallas Marvin scored 18:14 into the third period.

 

The Bulls were led by Kleven, who racked up one goal.

North Iowa racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Bulls surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. North Iowa's offense rang up 36 shots on the Lumberjacks' net.

North Iowa also got points from Brett Gravelle, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for North Iowa included Joe Burgmeier and Dylan Zins, who scored one goal each. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Johnny Panvica, who had two and Ryan Durant, Kurt Halbach, Adam Orn, Conor Durgan, and Jake Johnson, who each chipped in one.

Granite City forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game the Lumberjacks had been spending in the box. Granite City kept the Bulls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris Amsden made 38 saves on 41 shots.

Granite City also had goals scored by Luke Richardson and David Horsmann, who each put in one. More assists for Granite City came via Spencer Nelson, Zach Voss, and Jared Sprink, who contributed one each.

North Iowa registered one goal on six power play opportunities. The Lumberjacks' Kendall Meyer stopped 32 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Granite City registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
