Mason City, IA – North Iowa Bulls alumnus skater Lucas Wahlin has been selected to the Winnipeg Jets’ 2026 Prospects Challenge roster.
Wahlin became the first North Iowa Bulls alumnus to sign an NHL entry level contract when he signed with the Winnipeg Jets. He then made his professional debut with the American Hockey League’s Manitoba Moose, where he scored 1 goal and 2 assists for 3 points in 6 games. Wahlin also helped the Moose to their first Calder Cup Playoff series victory in almost a decade, upsetting the Milwaukee Admirals in three games.

Wahlin laced up for 38 games in the Bulls’ 2019-2020 season. In his debut season, the Woodbury, Minnesota, native posted 32 goals (most on the team), 27 assists, and 59 points. His efforts helped the Bulls to a 38-7-2 record and the Western Division Regular Season Championship, one of eight in franchise history. That team’s postseason push was cut short due to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and ensuing shutdowns.
Lucas spent the next two seasons with the NAHL’s Kenai River Brown Bears and the USHL’s Lincoln Stars before earning a spot on the University of St. Thomas’ NCAA Division I program, where he spent the next four years of his playing career. In three of those seasons, he was the Tommie’s captain. In all, Wahlin played 137 NCAA DI games, scoring 56 goals, 75 assists, and 131 points. He holds the Tommie’s career records for all those stats in their brief DI history, and the career record for games played in the 101-season history of St. Thomas hockey.
The Jets’ Prospects will compete against prospects rosters from the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, and Toronto Maple Leafs in a tournament held at the Centre Slush Puppie in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada this weekend. The Jets are slated to face the Canadiens on Saturday, September 12th at 12 PM CT and the Maple Leafs on Sunday, September 13th at 12 PM CT.
The Bulls congratulate Lucas on earning this opportunity and taking another step on his professional hockey journey.
