Jones Earns Bulls’ Second Star of the Month Honor of 2020-21

Mar 5, 2021

MASON CITY, Iowa – If you’re hunting for a player in the North American Tier 3 Hockey League who had a better finish to the month of February than Carson Jones, good luck finding him.

Six points over the final three days of the month gave Jones a West Division Star of the Week award, but that torrid weekend only served to close out a dominant month across the board for the Eden Prairie, Minnesota native. That dominance has earned him even more hardware from the NA3HL, earning the league’s Bauer Hockey Forward of the Month award. Jones topped the league with 12 goals in the shortest month on the calendar, lighting the lamp in nine of the Bulls’ 12 games.

He struck early and often in February, racking up six goals in the first four contests of the month. After going without a point in North Iowa’s loss to the Alexandria Blizzard on February 13, Jones rolled through the second half of the month with a seven-game point streak, with goals in five of those games and game-winners in two. A three-point day at New Ulm on the last day of February rocketed him into the team’s scoring lead with 33 points entering the month of March.

It’s the second time North Iowa has seen one of its players named an NA3HL Star of the Month – defenseman Cal Nauss earned the league’s Defenseman of the Month honor back in October. The Bulls last had two players named Stars of the Month back in 2017-18, when both defenseman Shane Bernhardson and goaltender Colin Cain earned awards at their respective positions in December of that season.

North Iowa finishes the regular-season home schedule on March 19 and 20 with a weekend set against the Granite City Lumberjacks. The Bulls will wear special jerseys to benefit Autism Speaks Heartland, with the jersey auction conducted online the week of the game through DASH Auction.
