Huge game by Jackson boosts North Iowa over Minnesota, 8-1

Austin Jackson had six goals and one assist to lead North Iowa to an 8-1 victory over Minnesota.

Jackson got on the scoresheet 5:42 into the first period. He then added goals at 9:08 into the first, at 15:59 into the first, at 9:03 into the second, at 1:25 into the third, and at 19:49 into the third.

North Iowa excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. North Iowa forced Minnesota goalie Dakota McDonald to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

North Iowa also had goals scored by Alec Nichols and Daylon De Souza, who scored one goal each. More assists for North Iowa came via Connor Bump, who had two, Riley Meyer, who had three, Marshall Barnes, who had four, and Kohei Sato, Mitch Parsons, Tommy Stang, and David Min, who contributed one each.

Minnesota was led by Tre Opack, who scored the team\’s only goal. Opack scored 10:56 into the first period to make the score 3-1 North Iowa. Lucas Mutschelknaus picked up the assist.

David Johnson took the win and made 12 saves before being replaced by Zack St. John who made 12 saves. North Iowa incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. McDonald rejected 37 shots on goal for Minnesota. Minnesota ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Minnesota, Ryan Conybear was ejected from the game.
