Garvey Named NAHL’s Central Division Star of the Week

Oct 11, 2021

MASON CITY, Iowa – For the first time in the North Iowa Bulls’ tenure as a North American Hockey League team, its best player in a weekend has also been named the top player in the Central Division.

Goaltender Hunter Garvey was named the NAHL’s Bauer Hockey Central Division Star of the Week for his play this past weekend, helping the Bulls pick up a pair of victories over the Minot Minotauros and take sole possession of first place in the standings. In all, he faced 82 shots and stopped 77, including a career-high 45 saves in Saturday’s 6-3 win. That 45 saves was the highest single-game total by any North Iowa goaltender since 2019.

“Hunter was great for us this weekend. He made a number big saves each night and gave our team an opportunity to win both nights,” said Bulls head coach Todd Sanden.

Garvey has won three of his four starts this season, including three straight. Even in his sole loss, a shootout defeat against the Austin Bruins, he helped the Bulls pick up a point in the standings. His save percentage ranks seventh in the league and second among Central Division goaltenders.

The Bulls will have a chance to add four more points to their season total with two more games against Minot this weekend, with these games to be played on North Iowa’s home ice. The opening puck drop for both games Friday and Saturday is slated for 7:30 p.m., with live streaming coverage on HockeyTV and Mixlr.
