TONIGHT’S PROMOTIONS: North Iowa hosts this evening’s “Bucks and Pucks” promotion, sponsored by Fleet Farm – limited-edition merchandise and freebies will be available at tonight’s game, and the Bulls will take pre-processed wild game donations in exchange for flex tickets to an upcoming game. CLOSING TIME: Once the Bulls finally got the lead to stick last night, they tacked on four more goals to finish on a run of five unanswered tallies – New Ulm is still looking for that first signature come-from-behind win, going 0-7-1 so far this year when tied or trailing after the first period. The Steel have been ahead after 40 minutes on four separate occasions this season, but turned just two of those games into wins, including last Friday. Overall, New Ulm has given up 20 goals in the third period, far and away their most of any period this year, while the Bulls have scored 23 and allowed only 10 in the final period of their games thus far.

THE BEST DEFENSE IS A GOOD OFFENSE: With 16 points, defenseman Cal Nauss is in rare air as North Iowa’s scoring leader through 13 games – last season, only Missoula’s Trevor Prince led his team in scoring as a defenseman. No North Iowa player has ever led his team in scoring, and Adam Orn’s 49 points during the 2015-16 campaign remains the team’s only top-four showing for a defenseman.

THIS IS HOME: After a loss to New Ulm last weekend, North Iowa looks to continue defending its lengthy home winning streak – last night’s victory extended the Bulls’ home winning streak to 12 games, dating back to last year. The last team to beat the Bulls in Mason City was New Ulm, a 5-3 Steel victory back on January 24 that featured a Keegan Bauman hat trick and saw North Iowa out-shoot their visitors 33-20.
