Freeman Earns West Division Star of the Week Honor

Oct 20, 2020

MASON CITY, Iowa – The North Iowa Bulls will take a three-game winning streak into the coming weekend, and a big weekend from an NA3HL veteran helped them earn their two most recent wins. Garrett Freeman has landed the league’s Bauer Hockey West Division Star of the Week award for his play this past Friday and Saturday against the New Ulm Steel.

Freeman tallied four points over the two games against New Ulm, after getting on the board for the first time as a Bull on a road trip to Granite City the previous week. The Sartell, Minnesota native loaded up the apple cart with a pair of assists in Friday’s road game, a 4-1 win over the Steel that was also the team’s 400th win against junior competition. He followed that with a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 6-1 home win, with the first-period goal going as the eventual game-winner.

He is off to a roaring start in his second full season in the NA3HL, after spending the past season-and-a-half with the Breezy Point North Stars and setting the team’s single-season goals record with 30 last year. This week’s award is his first such honor, and the first of the season for North Iowa. With six points over the first five games of the year, Freeman has jumped into the team’s scoring lead heading into another weekend road trip.

The Bulls head on the road Friday night to face the Willmar WarHawks, and then face the Alexandria Blizzard in Minnesota on Saturday. The opening puck drop for both games is set for 7:10 p.m. North Iowa will return to home ice on Saturday, October 31, as they welcome the WarHawks for “Boos and Brews Night” to celebrate Halloween.
