Fagerlee Fires Away Again in 7-2 Bulls Victory

GAME BOXSCORE

BREEZY POINT, Minn. – In some games last season, Cam Fagerlee (St. Anthony, Minn./North Iowa Bulls) kept his 18-game scoring run alive by the skin of his teeth. Other nights, he broke out and completely took over a game.

Friday night’s game at Breezy Point was one of the latter for the second-year Bull, with two goals and two assists in North Iowa’s 7-2 victory over the North Stars. Matt Dahlseide (Maplewood, Minn./North Iowa Bulls) started the scoring, on a 4-on-4 chance with 1:10 remaining in the first period, to send the Bulls to the break up by a goal.

A pair of hooking penalties gave North Iowa an extended man-advantage early in the second, and Fagerlee began his tear with a goal at 3:39 of the period for a 2-0 advantage. Back-to-back goals from Brendan Studioso (Mukilteo, Wash./North Iowa Bulls) gave the visitors a 4-0 lead by the end of the period.

Jordan Linder’s tripping minor opened the door for Fagerlee to put one away on another Bulls power play less than 90 seconds out of the locker room. Marco Escobar (Plainfield, Ill./Sioux Falls Jr. Stampede U18) hit the back of the net with a power-play tally of his own at the 5:40 mark of the period to make it a 6-0 game.

Breezy Point wasn’t about to disappear without putting up a fight, though – Lucas Brockman’s goal at 7:09 of the final period broke up the shutout, and a breakaway tally for Carson Simon just before the halfway point of the third cut the lead to 6-2. Escobar returned to the scoring column with a final tally in the final 2:27 of the contest, sending North Iowa to a 7-2 victory.

More North Iowa players made their junior debuts, including newcomer defenseman Harrison Stewart (Milwaukee Jr. Admirals), who had two assists in his first junior appearance. In the Bulls’ third game of the year, Evan Babekuhl (Long Lake, Minn./Orono H.S.) made the most of his first appearance in the Bulls net with 30 saves on 32 chances.

Both teams had plenty of opportunities with the extra man on the ice – North Iowa scored three times on 13 power-play chances, including a pair of 5-on-3 power plays. Breezy Point wasn’t without its chances, either, going 1-for-5 on the power play.

Max Eilefson took the loss for the North Stars, facing 54 Bulls shots and turning away 47. It was the eighth straight loss for Breezy Point dating back to last season, and their 28th defeat in 29 games all-time against North Iowa.

With a win in hand in North Iowa’s official return to West Division play, the Bulls head to New Ulm on Saturday to face a Steel team that nearly won the West a year ago. The opening faceoff at the New Ulm Civic Center is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. Live streaming coverage of all North Iowa Bulls games, home and away, is available on HockeyTV. Free audio streaming of select Bulls games, including Saturday’s game, is available on Mixlr.
