Cole Wirun Commits to University of Regina

Jun 25, 2025

Mason City, IA- The North Iowa Bulls are excited to announce that forward Cole Wirun has committed to play University Sports Hockey at the University of Regina, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Cole authored one of the most remarkable single seasons in North Iowa Bulls’ franchise history. He arrived in Mason City following two junior hockey seasons in his native Canada split between the AJHL’s Canmore Eagles and the SJHL’s Notre Dame Hounds. With the Hounds, Wirun scored 44 points in 44 games in the 2023-24 season. As the only Bull to skate in all 59 games in the 2024-25 season, the Lethbridge, Alberta, native set the franchise’s single season NAHL scoring record with 19 goals and 38 assists for 57 points. Wirun’s 38 assists and 57 points broke Logan Dombrowsky’s previous records from the 2022-23 season. His 19 goals tied him for the fifth most goals in a single Bulls’ NAHL season. Of all Bulls to play a full NAHL season, Cole holds the record for points per game as well.

Cole’s season high in scoring came at the 2024 NAHL Showcase in Blaine, when he scored two goals and two assists for a four-point explosion in an 8-2 victory against the Janesville Jets.

The University of Regina is a public university located in Regina, the capital of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The Cougars compete in USports and are a member of the Canada West Conference. Cole is the first NAHL North Iowa Bull to earn a commitment to a Canadian university.

The Bulls want to congratulate Cole on his commitment and wish him good luck as he embarks on his collegiate hockey career.
