Butkiewicz Called Up to Minnesota Wilderness

BLAINE, Minn. – After starting his North American 3 Hockey League career with a game-winning goal against the Wisconsin Whalers, Bryceton Butkiewicz was not in a North Iowa Bulls uniform this past weekend against the La Crosse Freeze.

Butkiewicz was competing instead at the North American Hockey League Showcase in Blaine, in front of more than 350 professional and college scouts, and hundreds of junior hockey fans from across the country. Butkiewicz was called up by his former NAHL team, the Minnesota Wilderness, and appeared in two games this past weekend.

During the 2016-17 campaign in Cloquet, he garnered eight points in 32 NAHL games, including four playoff appearances. The Kettle River, Minnesota native was taken by the Bulls in the fourth round of this summer’s NA3HL Draft, with the 170th overall pick.

“The North Iowa Bulls are happy to return Bryceton Butkiewicz to the Wilderness for the NAHL Showcase and hope he is able to help the team be successful,” said North Iowa head coach Todd Sanden.

Butkiewicz joined former North Iowa Bulls stars Connor Clemons and Josh Benson on the ice at the NAHL Showcase. Clemons signed a tender with the Minnesota Magicians this past offseason and notched two assists in three games during the Showcase. Benson won both of his decisions at the Showcase for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, as he starts his second season in Alaska. In all, 51 NA3HL alumni appeared on NAHL rosters at this past weekend’s Showcase.
