GAME BOXSCORE

WAUSAU, Wis. – Goals at the beginning of a period can make a statement of a team’s get-up-and-go, just as goals at the end of a period can leave an opponent with a message and something to remember heading into the intermission.

North Iowa wasn’t content with just one or the other Saturday night, picking up a 3-1 win over the Wausau RiverWolves for their fourth straight win. Connor Clemons (Prior Lake, Minn./Minnesota Magicians) put one away to get the scoring started just 1:10 into the contest, and Daniel Sandvig (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville H.S.) added one of his own with just 24 seconds remaining on the first-period clock.

It wouldn’t be a wire-to-wire lead for the Bulls, though – Matt Irwin snuck in a team-leading ninth goal of the season at the 12:51 mark of the first period to tie the game. Sandvig’s tally in the final minute of the period would break the game’s only deadlock.

Tucker Kruse (Woodbury, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) would be the only player the rest of the way to alter the score, adding his fourth goal of the year with 7:35 remaining in the second period.

North Iowa finished the night 0-for-6 on the power play, with Sandvig’s goal coming just 21 seconds after a too-many-men infraction against Wausau and a minute after Cameron Fagerlee‘s (St. Anthony, Minn./Totino-Grace H.S.) cross-checking minor. The RiverWolves had three chances to capitalize on the power play, but were unable to do so.

Colin Cain (Hummelstown, Pa./N.J. Junior Titans U18) picked up the victory, his 12th win of the season. Henry Baribeau took the loss for the RiverWolves for the second straight night.

The Bulls continue their four-game stretch against Wausau with a pair of home games next weekend. Both home games will be live-streamed on HockeyTV, with Saturday’s game also audio-streamed on Mixlr.

Next Friday is “Support Your School Night,” with a chance to win recess with the Bulls – our “No Shave November” contest will also be decided, with a Bulls jersey on the line. The Bulls will wear specialty jerseys over the weekend, which will be auctioned off after Saturday’s game to benefit the Worth County Full Strut chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
