Mason City, IA – The Bulls rode a powerful offensive performance to an overtime point against the Alexandria Blizzard, dropping the game by a 7-6 margin.
Rookie forward Logyn Kaufman authored one of the most remarkable single game performances in Bulls history, piling up four goals in just his second junior hockey game after an excellent career with the Lincoln Stars AAA 18U program. The Gig Harbour, Washington native scored at least one goal in each of the three periods. His first came in the opening stanza to answer the Blizzard’s Tyler Meyer’s game opening tally within the first minute of the period. Christian Plaga & Boone Theiler added goals of their own, with Theiler notching his on the power play to set the Bulls lead to 3-2 after Dillan Smidt posted Alexandria’s second goal.
Blake Brieland opened up the second period with a Blizzard shorthanded goal in the first minute of the frame. Kaufman took over the next stretch of the night. He ripped home a power play tally and netted an even strength goal for the first hat trick of his career. Alexandria cut the deficit down to size with two goals late in the frame. Job Carpenter and Jack Welde paid off chances for the Blizzard to even the score at 5-5 at the second intermission.
Each team potted one goal in the third. Alexandria went first with Blake Brieland netting the second goal of his night and third of his weekend. Kaufman roared back with an answer on his fourth goal of the night.
In overtime, North Iowa never got a shot on goal while the Blizzard put three shots on and one in the net. Job Carpenter ended the evening with the first goal of his season.
Boone Theiler matched Kaufman’s point total with 1 goal and 3 assists for 4 points, recording 8 points in his first two junior hockey games. Grant Harder added three assists and is at six points in the first two goals of his season. North Iowa returns to home ice next weekend for two games against the Minnesota Wilderness.
