Bulls Defeat Flying Aces 7-3!

Oct 17, 2013

The North Iowa Bulls headed back to Little Falls, Minnesota for a rematch with the Flying Aces, their opponent in the first round of the 2013 Silver Cup Playoffs this past spring.

For the second consecutive game, the Bulls allowed the first goal of the game and found themselves down 1-0 early, before Austin Jackson tied the game up just over a minute later. The teams would trade chances for the remainder of the period and the Flying Aces would take a late lead on Jake Mullendore's tally with just over a minute remaining in the opening frame. The Bulls would respond quickly however, as Nick Eytcheson tied the game with about 30 seconds remaining in the first and the teams would head to the break tied at 2.

North Iowa completely took over the game in the second period, scoring five straight goals to put the game away. Zach Jones, Trey Gardner, Taylor Brown, Logan Murphy, and Sam Naegele all potted goals for the Bulls in the middle frame and even though the Aces would add a late goal to cut the lead to 7-3 heading to the third, this game was well in-hand for the Bulls.

The third period would prove mostly uneventful for both teams as the goalies were finally able to shut the door on both offenses. The Bulls ended up outshooting Minnesota 36-27 for the game and Jared Schletty made 24 saves in picking up the win, his 4th on the season. Tim Santopoalo once again paced the Bulls scoring, picking up 3 assists on the night, while 7 different Bulls lit the lamp on the evening. Sam Naegele led the Bulls with a +3 rating on the evening.

The Bulls will take on the Breezy Point North Stars at 7:30pm tomorrow evening before returning to Mason City for the 2013-14 home opener on Saturday, October 26th against the Twin City Steel.
