Training Camp Wrap-Up

Sep 13, 2015

The North Iowa Bulls wrapped up their training camp and exhibition schedule with a pair of games against the NAHL's Janesville Jets. Janesville recorded a new high and was the NAHL league leader in regular season points a year ago and also were Robertson Cup semi-finalists. Facing off against that type of competition will prepare the young Bulls for a grueling regular season schedule that starts with the first 10 games on the road.
On Friday, September 11th the Bulls jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against the Jets on some fortunate breaks. Riley Meyer opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal. Kadin Machusak scored the Bulls second goal burying a cross crease pass from Mitch Parsons on a two on one. Bulls defenseman Shane Bernhardson also assisted on the Machusak goal. That would be it for the Bulls offensively as the Jets rattled off 6 unanswered goals to cruise to the 6-2 win. Zack St. John went the distance in goal for the Bulls allowing 6 goals on 39 shots faced.
Janesville opened the scoring on Saturday night going up 2-0 before the Bulls would find the back of the net for the first time. David Min sniped a slot feed from Marshall Barnes and Joe Guimont shortly after Janesville's second goal which resulted in a 2-1 first period Janseville lead. Janesville opened the scoring in the second period going up 3-1 until Jerame Schuetzle scored for the Bulls on an unassisted goal. Bulls goaltender David Johnson who started for the Bulls came out with 8 minutes left in the second period giving Tommi Ahlgren some valuable playing time against top competition. Johnson gave up 3 goals on 18 Janesville shots. Janesville added one more in the second moving the score to 4-2 after two periods. Janesville scored two in the third period to duplicate Fridays score of 6-2. Ahlgren allowed 3 goals on 19 shots.  "Overall our preseason games were very good for our team. It gave our kids a chance to execute some system play that will be valuable experience for the beginning of the regular season. It also gave everyone in our group plenty of reps at game speed."
The Bulls open up the NA3HL regular season back in the state of Wisconsin against the Wisconsin Whalers Friday and Saturday night September 18-19. Fridays game start time is7:30pm, with a 7pm start on Saturday.
The Bulls home opener and banner raising ceremony for the 2015 USA Hockey Tier III National Championship is Friday, October 30th at 7:30pm here in North Iowa. Come on out and help us kick off our 5th year in North Iowa! Go Bulls!
