North Iowa uses big second period to beat Atlanta, 6-1

Atlanta was within striking distance after one period, but North Iowa put the pedal down in the second en route to a 6-1 victory.

North Iowa got the win with help from a great game by Brett Gravelle, who had one goal and two assists. Gravelle scored 51 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 North Iowa. Adam Orn assisted on the tally.

North Iowa put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Atlanta to score on any of its four power plays. North Iowa forced Atlanta goalie Alekandr Zendejas to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

North Iowa additionally got points from Joe Burgmeier, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Austin Jackson, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Quinn Fuchs, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. North Iowa also had goals scored by Tom Lindgren and Marshall Barnes, who each put in one. More assists for North Iowa came via Ryan Durant, Jack Stang, and Connor Bump, who contributed one each.

Atlanta did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Atlanta puts an average of 5.7 pucks into the net per game.

Alex Johanson also scored for Atlanta. Other players who recorded assists for Atlanta were Artus Laukaitis and Tristan Foltz, who each chipped in one.

David Johnson recorded 23 saves for North Iowa. North Iowa incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Alekandr Zendejas made 27 saves for Atlanta on 33 shots. Atlanta incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
