Johnson leads North Iowa to shutout victory over St. Louis

David Johnson made 31 saves to complete the shutout and led the North Iowa Bulls to a 12-0 win against the St. Louis Jr. Blues.

North Iowa was paced by Trey Gardner, who grabbed one goal. Gardner scored 2:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 North Iowa. Zachary Johnston assisted on the tally.

The Bulls put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow St. Louis to score on any of its four power plays. The Jr. Blues were unable to stop North Iowa from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bulls eventually piled up 54 shots on goal. North Iowa bested its season scoring average. This season, the Bulls average 4.8 goals per contest.

North Iowa also got points from Johnston, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Carmen Dalesandro, who also tallied four goals and one assist to lead the team in points, Logan Murphy, who also registered one goal and one assist, Joe Burgmeier, who also had one goal and one assist, and Austin Jackson, who also racked up one goal and two assists. North Iowa also got a goal from Johnny Panvica as well. In addition, North Iowa received assists from John Chorzempa, Kurt Halbach, and Dylan Zins, who contributed one each, Evan Mills, Kohei Sato, and Travis Johnston, who each chipped in two, and Adam Orn and Brett Gravelle, who contributed three each.

St. Louis could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Jr. Blues put an average of 2.7 pucks into the net per game. St. Louis forced North Iowa goalie Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

The Bulls incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. William Hindle rejected 42 shots on goal for the Jr. Blues. St. Louis incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
