Dolter Named Central Division Star of Week

Jan 4, 2017

MASON CITY, Iowa – The North Iowa Bulls had one of their best special-teams weekends in recent memory, going 6-of-9 on the power play against the Rochester Ice Hawks Friday and Saturday. Mitch Dolter (Faribault, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary’s) was right in the thick of the action on the man-advantage all weekend, and that tenacity has earned him this week’s Bauer Hockey Central Division Star of the Week Award, according to an announcement from the NA3HL Wednesday morning.

The 19-year-old forward netted three goals on the weekend, including the second of North Iowa’s power play goals on Friday night, and his tally late in the second period of Saturday night’s game was the winner in a 4-3 come-from-behind triumph. Those three tallies helped him finish +3 for the weekend against the Bulls’ Central Division rivals.

“Mitch has been finding the back of the net consistently lately,” says head coach Todd Sanden. “His three goals last weekend were part of a stretch where he has scored in 5 of our last 6 games.”

Not to be outdone, teammate Mike Lyons (Wheaton, Ill./North Iowa Bulls) earned the division’s 2nd Star for the weekend with four assists, including three in Friday’s 8-1 victory. He’s now at 26 assists on the year, good for fifth on the Bulls roster and fourth among defensemen across the 3HL.

The Bulls head on the road on Saturday night to face the La Crosse Freeze for a 7 p.m. faceoff at the Green Island Ice Arena in La Crosse, Wis. All Bulls games, home and away, are streamed live on HockeyTV. All Bulls home games and select road games, including Saturday’s game at La Crosse, also audio-stream for free on Mixlr.
