Bulls Win over Flying Aces Heading Into Christmas Break

Dec 18, 2011

The North Iowa Bulls traveled North Friday, December 16, to take on the Minnesota Flying Aces.

The Flying Aces started the night off with the first goal of the game, but North Iowa would respond late in the first period as forward Sergey Barkin tied the score 1-1 with Justin Gregory and Nick Marsh assisting on the goal.

The second period saw a defensive battle between the Bulls and Flying Aces. However, Bulls forward Nick Marsh pushed the Bulls out to a 2-1 lead on a powerplay as he found the back of the goal off assists from Eric Behrend and Connor Langfield.

With a tight game going into the third period the Bulls looked to extend their lead and they did just that. North Iowa scored three straight goals in the third period giving them a 5-1 lead over the Flying Aces. Patrick Sivets was the first Bull of the third period to score as he was assisted by Nick Marsh and Tyler Thorpe. North Iowa Bulls forward Eric Behrend then scored two straight goals to extend the lead. Minnesota would be able to score a goal, but the Bulls held onto the game and came out victorious 5-2.

The North Iowa Bulls head into Christmas break with a 14-11 record overall and they are third in the West. North Iowa returns to the ice Friday, December 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Mason City.
