Bulls Take Home Multiple Monthly Awards

Nov 3, 2016

MASON CITY, Iowa – It probably goes without saying – October has been a pretty good month for North Iowa Bulls hockey. 12 wins, several North American Tier 3 Hockey League records (one of which has already been broken) and five Star of the Week awards later, the Bulls have earned some big-time recognition for their accomplishments in that five-week span.

Thursday, North Iowa defenseman Steven Mordini (Baraboo, Wis./Team Wisconsin) and forward Owen Larson (Minneapolis, Minn./North Iowa Bulls) were named the NA3HL’s Bauer Defenseman of the Month and Forward of the Month, respectively. Those awards come after a 12-0 run since Sept. 30, when the Bulls defeated Chicago in their home opener.

Mordini has racked up 14 points in nine games for the month of October – both of his goals during the month came on the power play, and the tally against Rochester this past Friday proved to be the game-winner. He finished the month with a plus/minus mark of +23.

As a forward, Larson’s offensive numbers will naturally be higher, but his have been staggering – the first-liner earned his award on the strength of 35 points, including 15 goals, in just 11 games. Three of those goals are game-winners. Two of those goals came on the power play. His plus/minus rating for the month ended up at +36…and his points pace? More than a point per period.

By the end of the night on Saturday, that winning streak could be at 14 games, as the Willmar Warhawks head south to “The Barn” for a two-game weekend set. The opening faceoffs Friday and Saturday are both set for 7:30 p.m., with Military Night scheduled for Saturday. A post-game jersey auction will be held to benefit the Families Alliance for Veterans of America. All Bulls games, home and away, are streamed live on HockeyTV, and all home games are also audio-streamed live on Mixlr.
