Bulls Split with Granite City

The North Iowa Bulls were at home for a Friday and Saturday night game against league leading Granite City Steel.

 The Bulls took to the ice Friday night in front of a wild home crowd and looked to put on a show.

 North Iowa came out and scored first as Brenden Giffel capitalized on assists from Patrick Sivets and Matt Kroska. Soon after the first Bulls goal Granite City tied the first period with a goal. However, North Iowa would close out the first period with a 2-1 lead as Patrick Sivets found the back of the goal on assists from Matt Kroska and Sergey Barkin.

 The second period saw a great defensive battle between the Bulls and Lumberjacks. North Iowa forward Patrick Sivets was able to score a late goal in the second period extending the Bulls lead 3-1.

 Heading into the third period Granite City looked to climb back into the game as North Iowa focused on adding to their 3-1 lead. Granite City scored on two powerplays to open the third period and tie the game at 3-3. The last powerplay for Granite City would prove to be the deciding factor as the Lumberjacks broke the tie to make the score 4-3 and ultimately winning the game.

 The North Iowa Bulls came out Saturday night looking to turn things around from the previous night loss to the Lumberjacks.

 Once again the Bulls found themselves on top 1-0 in the first period when forward Steve Heller scored on assists from Carson Gray and Nick Marsh. Granite City would then be able to tie the score 1-1 late into the first period.

 With the score at 1-1 at the start of the second period the Granite City Lumberjacks looked to put away the Bulls early as Granite City scored two unanswered goals making the score 3-1.  The North Iowa Bulls would not go out silently as Patrick Sivets scored making the score 3-2 at the end of the second period.

 The third period saw a hard fought comeback from the North Iowa Bulls. After an upsetting loss the night before the Bulls looked to fix their mistakes and they would as the scored two unanswered goals in the third period. The first goal came from Patrick Sivets to tie the score 3-3 as Tyler Torkelson and Matt Kroska assisted on the score. Bulls forward Matt Kroska then scored a goal to put the team up 4-3.  North Iowa would be able to hold off any Granite City comeback attempt and came out victorious 4-3.
