Bernhardson Lands Star of the Week Award

Jan 4, 2018

MASON CITY, Iowa – One week before his 21st birthday, Shane Bernhardson had a weekend to remember against the Rochester Ice Hawks as the Bulls closed the book on 2017. After a 115-game run with North Iowa that included just two goals, the Bulls’ captain took less than five minutes to rack up a natural hat trick in a 16-0 win Saturday night, and then pounded in two more goals in an 11-3 New Year’s Eve win on Rochester’s home rink.

That was more than enough to bring home the NA3HL’s Bauer Central Division Star of the Week award, the seventh for a North Iowa Bulls player this season. Six different Bulls have walked away with a weekly honor in 2017-18, with Tyler Bump earning the league’s divisional star in late September and again early last month.

Bernhardson racked up nine points on the weekend, pushing his total to 30 for the season. His five points on Saturday night set a new career scoring record, and the Apple Valley, Minnesota native ended the weekend with a +10 plus/minus rating.

The Bulls have won 13 games in a row, head on the road to Alexandria this weekend to face a Blizzard team riding a 10-game winning streak of its own. Live streaming coverage of Friday and Saturday night’s games is available on HockeyTV.

North Iowa returns to home ice in Mason City next Saturday night for “Superhero Night” against the La Crosse Freeze. For advance tickets to that game, or any future North Iowa Bulls home contest, click here.
