Alexandria’s comeback falls short, North Iowa wins 3-1

North Iowa came close to giving away a three-goal lead to Alexandria, but did just enough to escape with a 3-1 victory.

North Iowa led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when North Iowa\’s Kohei Sato scored at 14:47 in the second period to put North Iowa up 3-0.

North Iowa was sparked by Ryan Durant, who registered one goal and one assist. Durant scored on the power play 7:01 into the second period to make the score 2-0 North Iowa. North Iowa earned a power play opportunity when Corey Resler was put in the box for roughing. Sato picked up the assist.

North Iowa did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. North Iowa averages 6.1 goals per game. Alexandria was unable to stop North Iowa from sending pucks towards the net, and North Iowa eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

North Iowa also got points from Sato, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Carmen Dalesandro also scored for North Iowa. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Tom Lindgren, who had two and Riley Meyer and David Johnson, who each chipped in one.

Alexandria was led by Tony Arias, who scored the team\’s only goal. Arias scored 15:38 into the second period to make the score 3-1 North Iowa. Sean McAndrews assisted on the tally.

North Iowa\’s Johnson stopped 22 shots out of the 23 that he faced. North Iowa incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Evan Bisek rejected 33 shots on goal for Alexandria. Alexandria totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For Alexandria, Connor Nilson was ejected from the game.
